Optimizing Fatigue Risk Management: Enhanced FRMSc and Leon Software Integration

Tools for managing fatigue risks enhance both safety and efficiency. The integration between FRMSc, a global leader in this field, and Leon Software has now been upgraded. It allows users to access FRMSc’s solutions easily, without the need for duplicate data entry, introducing new features for a smoother experience.

Optimizing Fatigue Risk Management: Enhanced FRMSc and Leon Software Integration

Optimizing Crew Alertness: The Role of SAFE and CARE Models

Fatigue Risk Management Systems (FRMS) are reshaping aviation, making operations safer and more efficient. FRMSc’s expertise has driven industry-level changes in regulations and operations, benefiting organizations, regulators, and aviation professionals alike. By enabling data-based decision-making and continuous monitoring of roster fatigue risk, FRMSc’s solutions give operators full control to proactively manage and optimize crew fatigue. As a result, pilots and cabin crew experience better working conditions, improved focus, and overall well-being, contributing to both safety and efficiency in daily operations.

FRMSc offers two advanced fatigue risk models for the aviation industry:aircrew. SAFE (System for Aircrew Fatigue Evaluation) and CARE (Cabin crew Alertness and Rest Evaluation). SAFE, co developed with the UK CAA and in use since 1994, is a biomathematical model designed to predict fatigue hazards for commercial pilots. Built using over 40 years of research and empirical data pilot data from leading operators, it predicts fatigue for pilots based on occupationally specific algorithms. It accounts for factors such as time zone acclimatization, multi-sector duties, cumulative fatigue effects, and in-flight rest. SAFE integrates seamlessly with crew management systems, allowing airlines and regulators to analyze rosters, model fatigue risks, and implement mitigation strategies.

CARE is the only fatigue model specifically tailored developed for cabin crew using data from cabin crew and, addressing their unique operational demands. It predicts alertness levels, evaluates sleep patterns, and incorporates variable workloads into fatigue assessments. With built-in scenario analysis, CARE enables operators to test different roster conditions and optimize fatigue management. Together, SAFE and CARE provide comprehensive, science-backed solutions to improve fatigue risk management in aviation, ensuring safer and more efficient operations.

FRMSc also offer a biomathematical fatigue model for ground crew and ATC operations. FRIPRO expands the model family to incorporate ground and maintenance crew into their fatigue modelling. Using the same powerful platform as SAFE and CARE, FRIPRO has been developed to address the different challenges in fatigue caused by shift working.

Effortless Data Transfer: The New Leon and SAFE Connection

The upgraded connection between Leon Software and FRMSc-SAFE & CARE raises user experience onto the next level. While Leon has supported SAFE integration for several years, the latest update introduces a new way to connect via the Add-ons section, eliminating the need for manual data transfers. Now, pilot and cabin crew roster data is automatically sent from Leon to SAFE once a day, during the night, where it is immediately evaluated for fatigue and alertness levels.

This update also brings additional features, including automatic data transfer, manual data submission from the Crew panel, and the ability to send split duty time information. Continuous monitoring of fatigue risks enables operators to make data-driven decisions and proactively manage crew fatigue. Originally launched in 2017, this integration is part of Leon’s ongoing efforts to make fatigue risk management easier, more efficient, and seamlessly integrated into daily operations.
